The persuit of a life without glasses

I’ve been looking and following the developement of LASIK surgery for quite a while now.

It used to be a Hollywood extravagance where the treatment was so expensive that only movie stars could afford it. Not to mention it was quite dangerous at that time.

According to research done by the Medical Defence Union (MDU) in 2003, 18% of LASIK patients needed retreatment ( So almost 1 out of 10 LASIK patients do not get what they want.

I can imagine why with the technology 5 years ago, where eye alignment correction technology was not really good.

It simply means that the machine doesn’t follow your eye movement very efficiently during your surgery. Imagine the lasers are burning your eyes and suddenly your eyes moved and the machine kept on burning … like a DVD burner gone haywire.

Spoilt la your eyes like that.

One day I heard my friend went for LASIK and she said that the centre is quite well known and reliable. So I decided to go and check it out.

It’s called the Centre For Sight. It has branches in PJ Taman Megah, Rawang, Klang and the United Kingdom.

I went to the one in PJ. I went in and told them I want to know about the procedure for go for LASIK.

So Linda, a Business Development Exec, came to my assistance and explained the entire process of pre-surgery, surgery and post-surgery.

Basically I need to go through a series of check-ups to determine the conditions of my eyes and whether my eyes are suitable for LASIK surgery. I agreed and she signed me up for the check-up.

The check-up will take around 1.5 hrs time, whereby the conditions of your eyes such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism as accurately measured down to 0.01 accuracy (normal eyewear shop will only measure up to 0.25 accuracy) by the Wavescan Wavefront System.

Then some they put some Mydriatic drops to make your pupils dilate, so that the doctor can examine the inside of your eyes.

Now, this was the only part that it started to get abit uncomfortable. Basically with your pupils dilated, your eyes will be Super sensitive to lights. And the doctor need to shine bright light into your eyes to examine it … so be prepared to cry uncontrollably 🙂

The doctor advised me to go for a less invasive procedure called the Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) because the conditions for my eyes are reletively minor. As compared to LASEK, it doesn’t require a flap to be created on my cornea.

The recovery however is slower than LASEK, which means I will only be able to see the 100% results in a few weeks time as compared to LASEK, which takes just days.

Now, for the $$$ it involves.

Pre-surgery examination : RM 100 (refundable if decide to go for surgery)
Surgery : RM 5176 for both eyes (RM 4676 – if sign up within this promotion month, and available for 1 year 0% interest repayment with a few selected bank’s credit card)

Conclusion is that I think its a pretty good deal for me, and knowing that the centre uses an FDA approved procedure adds assurance that I will get what I want from this surgery.

The only thing left is for me to find extra RM 500 every month to pay my loan …

** BOSS !! If you’re reading this, you know what to do right ???? Give me a raise !!! ***

The world is fulled of big babies

== Deleted ==

This entry is being deleted because it represents one of the darker chapters of my life. And while it represents only my own personnal opinions and emotional outbursts in cyberspace, the devastation had proven to be as real as it can get.

I hereby sincerely apologize for all that I’ve said and done. Knowing full well that what I did can never be undone, one day I will come before God and all I can say is that I was a immature, selfish and self-centered bastard.

Dear Lord I come before you as a sinner, who is not worthy of all your blessings. I ask for Your forgiveness when I cast aside the wonderful blessings that You’ve given me as if it was dirt. I ask for Your grace as I repent and confess to You that I had indeed taken for granted all the blessings that You’ve given me. And I pray that Lord, You will teach me and mold me, like a father teaching his son, as I submit myself to You and Your will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Visitors from afar …

Someone famous visited our humble office the other day. He is a relative of our good friend Mr Bill Gates. He is actually quite well known around the world and sometimes he will make frequent visits to your house eventhough you do not want him to. A pesky buggar he is.

But none the less, he is someone famous and we took some time off work and went photo shooting with him. He’s quite a photogenic fella if you ask me.

Here are some of the photos that we manage to take with him …

Mr Blue Screen of Death

Oh did I mention he brought along his friend too?

Mr. BSoD – 2nd Monitor

We have got to be so damn lucky to meet with those two face to face. I tried to take a picture with them but my colleague Chee beat me to it ….

Dang …

I’m sure you all remember the time when Initial D swept across the nation with its (in)famous Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. So famous that people has started to paint their cars with panda colors.

So it wasn’t much of a suprise for me when I see these kind of panda paint jobs. BUT one day, I saw something like this …

…. look closer

It reads 槟城酿豆腐店 (自家用) (Penang Yong Tau Fu Shop – For Home Use) …….

Terry Fox Run KL

After reading about the Terry Fox Run KL on Kenny‘s blog, I decided for the first time in my life to join a charity marathon run.

I dun like to walk, let alone run. I slipped and fell and landed on my arse a few days ago (dun ask me how … too embarrassing). I’m now with a sprained left forth and little toe; and I have a huge pain in my ass (no pun intended). I have 2 assignments due next week and they’re not even close to finishing.

Under such circumstances, you might think that “Hey, wth am I doing running around Lake Garden in a Sunday morning, where most of us just came back from clubbing a few hours ago and still sleeping like a pig. Somemore got pain-in-the-arse and sprained-left-forth-and-little-toe and don’t-like-to-walk and 2-assignment-due-next-week.”

Well, the reason is because, he did it.

Terry Fox (Curtosy of

When Terry Fox was 19 years old, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a kind of bone cancer; and doctors have to amputate his right leg.

After witnessing the pain and suffering of cancer patients, he started the Marathon of Hope to raise awareness and money for cancer research.

He ran 42 km each day for 143 days, a grand total of 5,373 km, before he had to quit after being diagnosed with bone cancer in his lungs.

Terry Fox died one month short of his 23rd birth day.

Now, tell me, after knowing that Terry Fox ran 42 km a day for 143 days, with a prosthetic leg and bone cancer in his lungs. Is there any valid reason for me not to take up the run? Just because of a small pain-in-the-arse and sprained-left-forth-and-little-toe and don’t-like-to-walk and 2-assignment-due-next-week?

I don’t want to look like a pu**y.

I’m a man without fear !!!

Terry Fox Run … here I come !!!

Busy Busy Busy Busy Busy

Whoa … been absent quite a while … Really got no time to blog la … :'(

Anyway, updates.

Been very busy on assignments lately, I’ve already completed 3 assignments up to date and guess what … 2 more to go … :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(

For those who don’t know better, studying part time is not that easy. You need to have very understanding bosses that can ‘release’ you early when you have class. You need to have the mental fortitude to stay awake during night classes. And you need the guts to give your boss a week’s leave application for study leave every now and then 😛

But, it is rewarding and it keeps you from going through the same-old-thing everyday, keeps your mind open.

Just finish a whole week of exams. Nothing much to say about that besides the 2πr of my head is actually 4πr now.

Don’t worry. It will shrink back into size.

Anyway, I have to take an exam in 2 hours. And my brain is overheating …

Till next time …
